Not a lot of people know this but....


  • Milton Keynes, as the village of Mideltone ("Middle Town") is listed in the Domesday Book and the family name of Kaynes was added by 1422
  • 4,500 acres, that's around 20 percent of the new city area is parkland, of river valleys, woodlands, lakesides and park
  • Milton Keynes has 20 million trees & the Parks Trust is still planting at an average rate of almost 100 trees and shrubs a day
  • Campbell Park, is home to first class cricket, concerts, opera and fireworks, plus a flock of sheep!  All just a couple of minute's walk from the shopping centre
  • The first purpose-built multiplex cinema is "The Point" in Central Milton Keynes
  • Another first for MK, the NHS Direct Centre
  • Remains of a Roman Villa were found at Bancroft Park in Milton Keynes 
  • Nearly 900 plant species, including 150 scarce plants grow in Milton Keynes parks
  • Milton Keynes has a unique cathedral - made of trees, a peaceful place to discover the beauty of the outdoors
  • 1100 buildings are listed, from a red telephone box to medieval churches

  • There are 27 Conservation Areas (areas of special architectural or historic interest) within Milton Keynes

  • One-third of all UK Coca-Cola production is carried out in Milton Keynes

  • Red Bull racing are based in MK, as were both the Jaguar and Stewart teams before them

  • Milton Keynes is home to many significant employers, frequently housing the UK headquarters. The larger employers include Alps Electric, Amazon, Argos, Asda, BT, BP, Daimler Chrysler uK, EDS, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Konica Minolta, House of Fraser, John Lewis Partnership, Marshall Amplification, Mercedes-Benz, Merchants Group, MK Primary Care Trust, MK General NHS Trust, Railcare, Santander (was Abbey National), Schwab, Skoda, Suzuki, Tesco, Unisys, Volkswagen Group, Yamaha Music UK and the largest local employer, with around 5,000 employess is the Open University.
